Deatrich Wise Jr. is an American professional football defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). Wise has built a solid career as a reliable pass rusher and run defender.
College and NFL Draft:
Wise played college football at the University of Arkansas (2013-2016), where he recorded 7.5 sacks during his senior season. He was selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (131st overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.
NFL Career:
New England Patriots (2017-2021, 2023-2024)
Wise spent his first five NFL seasons with the Patriots, appearing in 65 games and recording 13.5 sacks as a rotational defensive lineman. During his rookie season in 2017, he was part of the Patriots team that competed in Super Bowl LII, though they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 41-33. The following year, he was part of the 2018 Super Bowl Champion Patriots that beat the Rams.
Standing 6’5″ and 290 pounds, Wise is known for his versatility, strong run defense, and consistent effort. After a brief stint with the Arizona Cardinals in 2022, he returned to New England in 2023, providing veteran leadership on the defensive line. Currently he plays for the Washington Commanders, and sustained a quad tendon tear early in the season. This necessitated surgery and ended his season.
