Ticha Penicheiro is a former professional basketball player best known for her exceptional playmaking abilities and long-standing career in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Born on September 18, 1974 in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, she became one of the most iconic point guards in women’s basketball history.
Penicheiro played college basketball at Old Dominion University, where she earned multiple All-American honors and established herself as one of the nation’s top players. Her success at ODU led to her being selected second overall in the 1998 WNBA Draft by the Sacramento Monarchs.
During her WNBA career, she became widely respected for her court vision, leadership, and signature no-look passes. She is a four-time WNBA All-Star and led the league in assists several times. In 2005, she helped guide the Sacramento Monarchs to their first WNBA Championship.
After retiring from professional basketball in 2012, Penicheiro transitioned into sports management and now works as a WNBA/NBA player agent, continuing her influence in the world of basketball.
